Hello! My name is Kalyani, and I am currently a student at San Jose City College, looking to transfer to San Jose State. I am majoring in Sociology with a minor in Child Development. I have been babysitting since I was about 13 years old, beginning with my own siblings. I have a brother who is now 19, and a sister who is 16. When they were younger I used to watch them when my parents went out for "date night", and later I expanded to watching their friends as well. My experience mostly involves children 3-13, though I have watched much younger children as well, including diaper changes. I have also done more formal after school care before, especially when I got my driver's license. I did after school pick up for one family in my neighborhood for two years, up until they moved recently. At this position, I Read more typically picked up the three kids from their school at 3 pm and would drive them to various after school activities, prep dinner, and then stay with them until their parents came home around 9 pm. In addition to babysitting positions like this, I also spent a few months teaching a crochet class- one of my own favorite hobbies- to a dozen at risk middle school students at sacred heart community services. Though this was a volunteer position, I still consider it to be very relevant experience. I am also CPR and First Aid certified, and have my own car. I also have experience working with children with learning and developmental differences; my younger brother has ADHD, and I volunteered for years at the treatment center he attended, called Lighthouse.
