Hi! My name's Megan Stuart and I'm spending the summer in SLO with my college roommate. I have a part-time job and am also looking for as-needed child care opportunities to have a chance to meet new people and get to know the area. Here's a more detailed list of my experience in child care. College: -After School Program Assistant: For two and a half years I worked, and later volunteered, at an After School Program at Bryant Community Center. The program was K-12 and included an after-school meal, mandatory homework time, activity/craft time, and occasional field trips. I was responsible for supervising the meals, helping with homework, planning one educational activity/craft per week, and supervising field trips. -Tutor for UM Latino Mentoring Student Organization: For two semesters twice a week I tutored an elementary student (the last semester of her second grade year and the first semester of her Read more third grade year). We spent the first part of tutoring finishing her homework, which was usually math or English. With any leftover time I would develop activities to help her not only retain her Spanish language skills, but also to be excited about her native tongue while living in a mostly English speaking community. -Assistant in the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Activity Rooms: Since September 2014 I have worked in the Activity Rooms at the Children's Hospital. These rooms provide a safe place for patients and their siblings to spend time to ease anxiety of being at the hospital, and to make long days at the hospital more fun by playing games, playing with toys, and making crafts. Post College: -Nanny: I worked four months as a full time nanny with a family. I spent most of the day with a 2 year old toddler, and would also provide after-school care for his 7 and 9 year old siblings. -Family Advocate: For the past year and a half I worked as a Family Advocate with the Head Start Preschool program in Lansing. In this program I learned how to communicate with 3-5 year olds in a way that promotes creativity, independent thinking, and self-regulating.
