Majoring in elementary education, I know that working with children is what I want to make a career out of. Long before I was ever paid to watch other people's little ones, I was changing the diapers of my own three younger siblings. I am experienced with special needs and foster children. As well as having served families with DS and Autistic children, my younger brother has severe cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. Having the unique experience of caring for him since a young age has given me the ability to be level-headed in medical situations that require quick thinking and action as well as a close and personal, hands on experience with tube feeding, dispensing medication, the ability to handle seizures and react appropriately, adult diaper changing, bathing, and dressing among other skills. Additionally, I have worked very closely with several families with foster children and am aware Read more of all the peculiarities that are common with foster children including unknown or undiagnosed medical issues as well as moodiness surrounding the the chaotic parental relationships that they are forced to navigate at a young age. I able to handle these situations with grace and ease, understanding that though the child is coming out of circumstances they cannot control, order must still be put in place for everyone's benefit. Most recently, I have worked for the past four year with a family of three boys, now aged 6, 3, and 1. I have been working with the family predating the birth of their second child and now have the distinct (though at times exhausting) pleasure of chasing all three little monkeys around the house. I am able to take energetic children and channel their energies into constructive and creative activities instead of neglecting them by sitting them in front of screens. I often find that naughty children are bored children. I often work with children in ages spanning from infant to 13 years old. Additionally, I regularly work with large groups of children, at times up to 8, but would potentially be comfortable with more. I will be Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certified by the end of the summer 2015.
