Hello :) My name is Julia and I am a college student at UC Santa Cruz. I love nature, art, dance, hiking, photography, skating, going to the beach, and exploring the forest. I am a second year student, double majoring in Biology and Art, with plans to continue my education in a masters nurse midwife program. My entire life I have loved kids and had the blessing of getting to work with them. Starting at a very young age I showed in interest in children and started babysitting for some families in my neighborhood . This began around age 10 with the help and supervision of my mother, and eventually became a completely independent effort throughout my high school years. During this time I mainly worked for two families in my neighborhood. One had two boys, two years apart, both of whom I watched from the time they were born, Read more until the oldest was 5 and they moved to the east coast. This experience not only allowed me to watch as these boys grew up, but also gave me experience with newborns and infants. During my last two years of high school I began watching two girls across the street (ages 9 and 12), and would assist them with homework or other projects when they needed it. My other main babysitting job started in 2007 when I began babysitting for a family near my high school. When I began this job they had two girls (ages 3 & 5) and soon would have another, making it three girls spaced roughly three years apart. In addition to these babysitting jobs, I also worked at an arts camp every summer 2008-2013. It was a camp I’d loved growing up, filled with days of art and outdoor activities and I knew I wanted the kids I was leading to have the same positive experience I had. Over the last 7 summers I have worked as a counselor with groups of all ages. I tend to work with the 4, 5, and 6 year olds the most often, but the camp ranges in age from 4-12. This gave me experience working with kids of all ages as well as showed me how to manage a lot of kids at one time. Since moving to Santa Cruz I have had so many wonderful experiences and met so many amazing people, but have really missed being around children on a regular basis. I look forward to meeting you and your bundles of joy:)
