I have worked with children consistently for five years, either as a one-on-one tutor, reading specialist, after-school activities programmer, or most recently as a teacher. These children all have had very diverse backgrounds and experiences, and I love the challenge of learning about each young person individually and how I can help them mature and develop their inner strengths and passions as an additional caring adult in their lives. My specific experiences are as follows: 1. Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, Ermelo, South Africa January 2015- October 2015 -Taught English to 250 grade 9 students five days a week. -Fundraised, developed, and built a high school library, equipped with 3,000 books, four staff members, and eight student helpers. -Created an after-school English Club for forty students to practice English skill development in fun and creative ways. 2. Family Programmer, YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park, Colorado May 2013- September 2013 -Lead outdoor education activities for ages 4-12 such as archery, ecology, and aquatic exploration. -Lead family adventure activities such as night hikes and orientations to promote family bonding. -Assisted guests at the front desk of the programs building. 4. Undergraduate Writing Consultant, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities September 2012- May 2013 -Conducted one-to-one tutoring sessions with international and domestic students in all subjects and areas of writing. -Assisted students with academic writing, resumes, cover letters, and personal statements. -Counselled fifteen nonnative English speaking (NNES) freshmen in a College English Transition (CET) writing course. 5. June 2010‐August 2010 -Tutored 20 struggling Spanish‐speaking elementary students in reading and writing.
