I was an live in AuPair for a family who was traveling from LA to London. I taught her 10 year old daughter math, spelling, writing and assisted in creating a blog on London. I facilitated the 10 year olds experience by taking her to Museums, Parks, Bookstores, Libraries, Historical Monuments/Enactments, Childrens Theatre and organizing play dates. As well as getting homework done, school testing, and Skyping with her classmates and teacher on a weekly basis. I routinely made meals and snacks for her as well as bathing supervision and getting dressed in the morning and ready for bed; bed time stories included! I stepped in when the mother was exhausted from working on the weekends even when those were my days off. I helped schedule and came with the family on a trip to Ireland. I was also running errands for the mother on a regular basis. Emailing and Read more texting with both Mother and teacher to stay in contact and clear communication were essential in this adventure across the pond. Lots of outdoor time and physical activity as well as yoga and/or meditation were introduced into our day to day life. We would also listen to music and sing songs together especially on walks around town while holding hands. I created two options for her to choose from if tantrums or emotional outbursts were on the horizon. I also used some Non Violent Communication techniques when tantrums weren't subsiding. I allowed her to explore her emotions and write poetry or paint as a form of expression and therapy when the opportune time arose.
