I spent 30 years teaching in elementary education (first grade to 8th grade), 10 years of which was spent with special ed students (K-8) in multiple modalities. I especially enjoy fostering reading skills, life skills, and encouraging creativity and imagination. Some of my favorite activities with kids are swimming, nature walks, puzzles, board games, educational games, and art projects. The disabilities I have experience with include: ADD/ADHD, autism, learning disabled, mentally & physically handicapped, seizures, behavioral disorders, and some trauma disorders. I've also provided respite care for an autistic child (age 12). I have experience with meeting the needs of gifted students as well. Most of my caregiving experience (outside of raising my own) is with adults, however I would prefer to care for children/youth. I cared for an older man with Parkinson's for three years and two elderly woman with dementia for a total of four years.
