My love for children (and desire to care for them) began long before I was old enough to actually care for other children alone. As soon as I was 11, the minimum required age, I took babysitter safety and skills courses, where I received my first CPR/Heimlich Maneuver certification. I have been re-certified multiple times since, and have been certified in the updated methods. I spent several years caring for my younger brother and cousins, while also being hired occasionally by parents in our neighborhood. More recently, I have been working on an as-needed basis for a young couple and their 3-month-old baby boy. With them, I have gained experience in infant care (from birth), as well as overnight care.
