Hello families! My name is Sarah Halstead, I am a full time Visual Art Teacher at Fairview High School in Boulder, CO during the school year. I have worked at Fairview (part of the Boulder Valley School District) for five years now, starting here directly following my student teaching. I received my Bachelors Degree in Art Education from Michigan State University in 2009 and was given a full graduate year student teaching experience, spending one semester with an elementary school and another with a secondary level school. Prior to my professional full time career I worked as a summer Camp Director at an arts camp for 1st and 2nd graders in my hometown of Highland Park, IL. I worked with the summer camp for 10 years, starting as a Camp Counselor then gradually being promoted to Camp Director, responsible for the entire organization and function of the seven week camp. Read more My working years have given me experience in all aspects of child care. I am able to ensure kids remain active and engaged in a playful and safe environment. I strongly believe that in the summers, kids need to experience the world outdoors as much as possible. I am a physically healthy individual ready to play hard and all day long. I love to hike, bike, swim, do arts and crafts, build forts, etc. I am also happy to drive kids to various activities such as camps, sports, or other commitments. I am not afraid to lay down the law when necessary, as any educator has learned, but I also know how important it is for young kids to feel loved, appreciated, and understood. I feel I have found a happy medium between both and feel confident in my skills to gain a child's trust and confidence. I hope that I am a good fit for seasonal help with your family! : )
