I really dislike leaving bad reviews however, I confirmed with Kate several times the night before and got all of the assurances. She was upbeat, enthusiastic and very convincing. I believe her exact words to me were something like, "Don't worry, I'll be there on time, I'm a very reliable person." Less than 12 hours after that conversation and less than 1 hour before she was supposed to show up, she texted me saying that she couldn't make it. I was needing a sitter to make a very important 8:00am meeting that affects my livelihood, which was expressed to her and I was willing to pay over $100 for 2 to 3 hours of babysitting for a self-sufficient and mild-mannered 8-year old who would have been asleep for most, if not the entire time. I even asked her if she was sure that she didn't want more than a hundred dollars. To be fair, she claimed she was sick and couldn't make it. However, when I confirmed with her the night before, she was upbeat with no hint of sickness. I wish her all the best, but would advise others to be careful and not rely on her, regardless of her assurances of reliability or references. With that being said, I believe she was sincere in her enthusiasm and intent to follow through, but (and this is just educated speculation on my part, as an Anthropologist) she probably either changed her mind when she didn't feel like waking up, or partied the night before -leaving her hung-over and unmotivated to follow through when it actually came time to follow through. A responsible person wouldn't have made so many assurances and guaranteed reliability if they weren't feeling 100% or were planning a night out and there was a remote possibility of not being able to follow through, especially when I stressed the importance of showing up and could have hired someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if she will show up under a different name/profile (hence the lack of a photo, -hindsight is 20/20).
