Update 2015: I moved to Vermont for 3 years and recently moved back to DC. My time as a nanny in DC was wonderful and enriching for me. I was really blessed to be included in a chapter of one family's life. I am biased of course but they were just exceptional to me... excuse me, they are currently exceptional, as we still keep in touch. I'd love to have the opportunity to experience that again. Vermont demographics are very different than DC's obviously and the need for this type of childcare isn't as great. In Vermont I worked for the states' implementation of the ACA. Before that I lived in Philadelphia where I worked for a mortgage company.  With my move, I realize I'd like to do something different. I love kids.  Whenever people brought their children into work, I'd talk to them and everyone always said I should be a teacher Read more or a mother because I "click" with kids automatically.  This may be true because I am one of five in my family and I have seven nieces and nephews I've spent much of the last five years watching.  The children I've taken care of ranged from newborn to 10 years old, though I've primarily taken care of kids from one to three years old.     When babysitting for my nieces, I always took cues from my sister.  I don't generally make the guidelines, I simply enforced them.  I understand and respect however someone wants to raise their children.  When watching a child/children I like to have them paint.  I am not an artist, I don't expect to make one out of anyone's child but I hope to inspire an appreciation for some sort of art.  My one year old niece and I would start our day with the Baby Mozart on in the background while we painted.  I also think it is very important to get outside on nice days and exercise or explore. I like to think of ways to create an interest in something that might seem boring to a young child at first and I like to make fun time productive as well. Very young children are definitely very susceptible to learning, simply exploring the world around them.  I noticed that children seem to mirror your moods, and they love enthusiasm.  So from the moment I would pick my niece or nephew up in the morning I take them to the window to say Good Morning Sun.   From the first moment they know this is going to be a great day, like every day is a new adventure.  I just feel happy to be a part of that.

George And Linda D.

3/23/2010

Elizabeth has worked for us since September 2009. She has been our one and only nanny during our four-year-old's pre-K school year working between 8 and 20 hours a week. She has driven our car from Woodley Park to Bethesda to pick our son up at school and return in the afternoons. She has been responsible, good at communicating with us, and excellent company for our son. She is safe, mature, and fun for the little one. We are going to keep her as long as we can and only have good things to say about Elizabeth. We were very lucky to have found her and have appreciated the fact that she has given up other work offers to stay with us. While she only watches our one child we are positive she could handle a tribe if that was the job.
