I love working with children, they brighten my day and teach me so much. Growing up as one of the younger girls in a family of five children, I learned the value of family and individuals. My experience began when my two nieces were born. Babysitting for them and my nephew was certainly more enjoyment than anything else. That experience gave me the courage to say yes to families with whom I attended church and had a need for child care for their children ranging in ages from one to ten. Because of those experiences I was offered a job working part-time in a domestic violence center attending to children whose parents were in meetings with counselors. As that position progressed, I was asked to nanny a 10 month old for a year. The experience as a nanny was very fulfilling. While finishing my high school studies as an independent Read more home schooled student I was offered the most rewarding experience as a nanny for a family with four children, ranging in age from 8 months to 11 years old. As I entered their home and made breakfast while the parents readied themselves for work, the baby would greet me with a huge smile. After breakfast the older children would head off to school and I would spend time playing with the baby before he went down for his nap. While he was napping I would straighten the house, do the dishes and a little laundry while waiting for the older siblings to arrive home. As they entered the home we would greet each other and they would begin their homework. Upon completion of that homework, we would all play together riding bikes, taking walks to the lake near their home and enjoying each others company in the last few hours we had before their parents arrived home. During their summers off I would take them to my parents farm and offer them an experience in a very different environment with animals and open fields. I was saddened to see the family move. During this time I became engaged, married and off to a new part of the country with my husband. Settling here in St. Louis with my husband of three years, I discovered that I would like to nanny once again.
