My name is Susan Harvey. I am a 57 years-young, still-roller-skating-on -the-regular, former teacher, turned professional nanny, a graduate of the University of Missouri College of Education and native Missourian, a Myers-Briggs ISFJ Defender, a fun-loving introvert who enjoys people in small gatherings and needs a reasonable amount of quiet/alone time to recharge and refresh. I value honesty and trust, integrity and courtesy and being a person of my word. A doer and self-starter, not one to be idle when something needs doing. A caregiver by nature, a perfectionist and lover of all things home. Equal parts: adventurous soul, have a passport and not afraid to use it and homebody, just as happy to sip coffee and curl up with a good book. In recent years, I have been on an adventure in South Florida as a full-time nanny first for a family with four lively children, and currently energetic Read more twins. Every day is a different, at times challenging, wonderful experience. I have been proclaimed the “Best Peanut Butter Worker” by a little girl who knows her peanut butter. I’ve tackled 20 loads of laundry in a day (2 weeks sans power sufficient to operate a washing machine, post hurricane Irma, at a laundromat) with four children in tow! I keep my passport handy, you never know when you’ll be needed on a family ski trip in Mont Tremblant, Quebec or running an errand in Deshaies, Guadeloupe. I have experienced more precious moments than one heart can hold. I have worked in education and childcare for over thirty years; first in licensed home day care where I cared for 13 children in my home. As a stay-at-home mom, I supplemented my family’s income working as a lifeguard for the YMCA, where I certified in water safety and rescue, CPR, AED, and First Aid. In the public education system, I taught middle and high school students Family and Consumer Sciences and later students with cross-categorical mild-moderate disabilities K-12, in between I took a sabbatical to educate my own children, through elementary school, at home. I served in the infant nursery at church on rotation and up until the pandemic, volunteered childcare, in a group home for young women in the foster care system who have become mothers themselves. In my personal time I enjoy roller-skating, dancing, swimming, bike riding, a day at the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, tent camping and hiking. Every day I am blessed to do what I am passionate about, nurturing tiny humans.
