I've been working with youth for over 10 years in different capacities. I started as docent at an art museum, worked and coordinated after-school programs, at a preschool, and as an art teacher in an elementary school. I love exploring outside, being active, and collaborating with children on art projects and cooking. I have also worked in animal hospitals and as a dog walker/petsitter so I love animals! I completed my Master’s degree in Teaching Art Education at Columbia College Chicago and hold an Illinois teaching license. I currently teach art at Elmwood Park High School. Last year I taught in Chicago Public Schools. As an art teacher, I have planned and implemented visual arts based lessons aligned with state and national standards for students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. I lead small and large classes by planning and integrating art history and cultural relevance components into daily lessons. Utilizing Read more my philosophy undergraduate degree, I create curriculum that engages students in exploring the connections between disciplines and in generating questions and developing frameworks of thinking. My specialty is in creating projects that engage students in thinking critically about our world and their roles as active members in a community. I have substantial experience working with youth as an after school educator in Chicago Public Schools for 2 years and as a site director and recess coach in Evanston. I interned at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and NYCH Gallery. I have worked with diverse organizations, giving presentations and leading school projects at art museums and giving tours at a prairie preserve. I enjoy challenging my students to develop their curiosity and explore new subjects and interests. I utilize a responsive teaching style and enjoy facilitating student choice through problem based learning. As an experienced educator, I love inspiring others and am very patient, positive and energetic. I enjoy collaborating with others. Two of my strongest assets are my excellent communication skills and my boundless imagination.
