I have never been a "nanny" per-se. However, I have over 22 yrs. of experience with children - mostly as a parent. I've been blessed with the opportunity to help my best friends with caring for their special needs siblings. I have known them for > 20 yrs. and they both have mentally handicap siblings. Their parents are now deceased and they are the legal guardians of their siblings. Their IQ level is very low and have speech problems; therefore they are not capable of communicating concisely. This said, trusting just "anyone" with their care is never an option. One of them also has behavioral issues therefore their caregivers should be patient, loving, and able to keep calm during flare ups. Last but not least, my ex-husband has a 6 year old girl and my husband and I have been the "go-to" person any time he and his wife plan a night out or a weekend getaway. We have been blessed with the opportunity to care for her very often since she was just 5 weeks old. She calls me Nana and I love it! I have also cared, on a need basis, for family members' babies as well as neighbors' children (from a few months old to pre-teen age). My professional background is in adm/mgmt within the healthcare industry. At this time, I have decided that after 20+ years in the corporate world in the Tampa Bay area, I'd like to focus on working with children and within reasonable distance from my residence. I love children and any time spent with young and innocent kids is time well-spent. It is the best opportunity an individual has to make a positive, loving, and lasting impact in someone's life. I am married to a Fire/Medic and I am a parent of two young adults. My daughter is 22 yrs. old and recently graduated from University of Florida with a degree in Journalism and Communications. She just relocated to the west coast to pursue a career in this field. My son is 20 yrs. old and a junior at Florida State University. He's seeking a degree in Biology/Pre-Med. My father, 82 yrs. old, suffers from Alzheimer's Disease and I help my mother with caring for him on a daily basis. As an "empty-nester", and having made the decision to bring my corporate world days to an end, I am looking forward to dedicating my time, love, attention, and parental experience to working with kids and their working families.
