I have 4 years of experience total as a nanny for 2 children ages 9 and 12. I was responsible for after school pick up and extracurricular activity chauffeur. The 12 year old had special needs and a learning disability so while I would help both of them with their homework, I spent extra time tutoring him in math and social studies. I would also prepare dinner, make school lunches, organize their book bags for the next day and enforce the bedtime rule. After they were asleep I would clean up whatever mess the kids made that day, load and start the dishwasher, and walk the dogs. They almost always had friends over, especially during the summer, so managing and feeding up to 5 or 6 kids at a time is nothing for me! Summers were the best! I worked every day from 10-7 and our days were filled with Read more all kinds of fun activities and adventures! We ended the summer by going on their annual family beach trips where I had basically the "big sis" caretaker role to help relieve mom and dad from all the back and forth pool to ocean chaos! I also did overnights when needed sometimes for multiple nights at a time. They considered me as part of the family, and I felt like I was. It was far more than just a job to me and being paid was always an afterthought. All the school plays, band concerts, swim meets, birthday parties, trick or treating, and field trips I went to weren't included in my paycheck and I could have cared less. The smile on their faces simply because I was there was absolutely priceless. I would also occasionally sit for was a younger couple who had just moved here from New York with their 2 boys, a 10 month old and a 2 year old. I usually sat for them on weekend nights from about 5-11:30 pm and was responsible for making sure they ate dinner, giving them baths, and putting them to bed on time. Once all that was done I would pick up and put away all the toys and clean whatever mess was in the kitchen. They loved me for this and always told me how helpful it was. But I was more than happy to do it, because I knew they were still trying to unpack and how hard that must be with 2 small children. Working for this family gave me different experience and practice taking care of younger babies that required more care and responsibilities than my older children did. I’m very grateful I was able to gain that experience with such an awesome family!
