I had hired Michelle more than a month in advance. When she agreed to be our nanny we stopped our search. Then a week before I was to return to work after my maternity leave she sent me an email (no call) to tell me she was staying on where she was. Apparently the Dad of the family she had been working for got a new job, so they could keep her. I'm pretty sure she never intended to work for us, just wanted a back up in case they didn't find work. A horrible, disgusting thing to do to something with a little baby who needs care!
