My name is Maggie, it's very nice to meet you! I first began my long childcare career as a 7th grader, babysitting evenings and weekends for family-friends, neighbors, and my kid-sister. As I grew up I moved into full-time summer nannying and eventually took my career international, becoming an Au Pair in Malmo, Sweden for over 2 years. I took some time off to work as a community organizer for the Youth Service Bureau of Illinois Valley working with at-risk youth, specifically middle school age girls who come from difficult backgrounds in rural western Illinois. Unfortunately, Governor Rauner cut the funding for my position during the large budget cuts in spring/summer of 2015. I still meet with my girls regularly and have no plans to disappear from their lives. They named themselves "The Sisterhood" and constantly remind me how much I mean to them--how could I desert them? Thankfully, with Read more weekends, Facebook, and cellphones--I can be in regular contact with my girls without physically being in the same room 5 days a week as I used to: allowing me the opportunity to take up child care again--another passion of mine!
