Disclaimer to all parents reading this, I am terrible at talking about myself. It is right at the top of my list of “Things I Hate”, falling just under spiders. That said, I will take a stab at describing myself. Many people say I really am a nice person (this is contrary to my little brother’s opinion). My background: I am a 28 year old college graduate. I got my B.A. at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a directing/design theatre major focusing on costumes and make-up and am now back in school getting my science prerequisites in the attempt to get a masters in nursing, go figure. I am the oldest child of two; my brother and I claim two Lutheran pastors for parents. That’s right - two pastors for parents. This gives me a couple of advantages both as a caregiver and an employee. Caregiver advantage: I Read more have spent my entire life around children with a good chunk of it caring for them. Employee advantage: strong moral compass and a hefty dose of good old Lutheran guilt (it ranks right up there with Catholic and Jewish guilt). I have cared for a wide range of ages from infant to 12 years old. The most recent being siblings ages 8 and 12. I look forward to caring for children again because, while I know there will be days filled screaming and crying, tantrums and snot, sickness and gum in hair, the days that are filled with laughter and playing games, coloring and going to playgrounds, museums, and zoos all make it worthwhile.
