I love working with children! To ensure that I could do that in the best way possible, I pursued an educational degree that enabled me to work with and contribute in a positive way to children of diverse backgrounds, no matter what their challenges. To that end, I worked as a School Social Worker for the past 4 years having mostly served children with social-emotional needs. This experience has provided me with the tools to handle any situation involving a gamut of behavioral difficulties. I have also trained others including administration, teachers, and parents, to do the same. I have built strong relationships with staff, children, and their families; and I have been known as a “parent whisperer,” with children and families who have been perceived as difficult. Many parents have expressed gratitude and shared that I was the only one who truly understood them and their child. By employing Read more compassion, empathy, collaboration, accountability, and persistence, I have been able to see tremendous social-emotional and behavioral growth in the children I’ve served. Because of my love and passion for children, I have pursued excellence in any opportunity afforded to me, including family, education, work, and the community. I have taken full advantage of being an aunt of 7 nieces and nephews, which has provided me with 10 years of child care experience. I am described as the fun, silly, loving, aunt who is always there when in need and “takes care of business.” Every moment, they are in my care, is a teachable moment from helping with homework, resolving conflict, building their social skills through play, promoting self-esteem through the arts, and engaging self-care and life skills. Being interviewed by my nephew, as most inspirational person in his life, is a testament to the impact I have had in their lives. I have also attained a Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago, which has equipped me with knowledge on child development, theories on behavioral heath, and policy regarding economic and educational access. Additionally, for most of my work experience, I served youth as a counselor, mentor, tutor, and instructor. Lastly, I am heavily involved in the community serving as a Youth Coordinator for multiple organizations, where I have developed and managed enrichment programs. I am eager to positively impact families by providing children with their basic needs, promoting good character, and increasing their educational opportunities.
