We needed a nanny to fill the gap between a long-term nanny and full-time summer camp – about a 2 month period. We found Sara and she seemed like a good fit but she needed to start earlier than we needed (our current nanny would have worked for another 8 weeks.) We changed our plans to accommodate her need to work right away. First day, everything was good. Day 2, Sara left after 30 minutes to go to the doctor because she didn’t feel well but hoped to be back that day. She did not return that week. She returned to work the following Monday and worked the entire week. We keep a menu each week with easy, healthy options for breakfast and lunch – we also have a no “fast food” rule. Breaking from the menu, she took our kid to Dunkin Donuts two days in a row and had hot dogs and pizza out for lunch – all things we found out after the fact from our 5-year old son instead of Sara. The following Monday, she texted us early and said she was sick and wouldn’t be coming to work that day. That night, we sent her a text asking about Tuesday and she responded that she wouldn’t be in Tuesday but definitely would be in Wednesday. On Tuesday night, another message saying she was still sick and wouldn’t be there Wednesday. This led to a back and forth of texts where both sides confirmed we wanted this to work out. On Thursday morning – minutes before she was supposed to be at our home -- another text saying that she overslept and that the job wasn’t working out for her and she quit via the same text. In 14 days of ‘employment’, she missed 8 days of work and rarely did we get a proactive communication letting us know what was going on so that we could plan.

We had an interview scheduled after quite a lot of back and forth emailing. She didn't show and she didn't call. Really rude thing to do to working parents!
