I’m 20 years old and am transferring from Cornell College in Iowa to DePaul University here in Chicago. I’ve babysat sporadically as a teenager, and volunteered at the Holy Family Food Pantry in Waukegan for 3 years, where I would provide food to children ages 1-17. During my time volunteering there, I supervised the children on the play ground and ate lunch with them as well as played with them. Recently, through Cornell I became involved with a Lunch Buddy program, where I worked with children in 3rd and 4th grade. We visited the local elementary school, Washington Elementary, for lunch and recess several times each month throughout the year. Beyond visiting them for lunch we did a bunch of other activates with them like bringing them to the college’s basket ball games where the kids participated in half time games, as well as setting up holiday activates, like a Read more haunted house, for the children. Honestly, what got me so interested in working with children was volunteering at the Food Pantry. I really love watching kids learn and grown, and feel like I can be a positive role model for them. I’m a very caring and understanding person, and strive to do well but understand that trying is just as important and realize that learning is a process. I also really enjoy being around kids and having fun with them
