My mother had a day care in our home growing up, so I was raised around children and knew I wanted a career working with kids in some fashion. I graduated with a degree in Recreation Management from Illinois State University in May 2014. During my time at Illinois State, I was Vice President for a program called College Mentors for Kids. College Mentors is an after school style program that paired college students with at risk youth at a local elementary school and brought them to campus to teach them about jobs, sports, ways to be an active and positive member of the community, and gave them a positive mentor to connect with. I currently work for the Decatur Park District as Recreation Supervisor and am responsible for an outdoor pool, day camp program, volleyball programs, preschool programs, and a child care room. For day camp, I get to Read more plan the children's activities for summer, winter, and spring breaks including: crafts, games, science experiments, community service projects, and more. I really enjoy planning activities for my preschool classes as well-thank goodness for Pinterest! I run 4 different preschool classes between October-May. We learn about holidays, seasons, nature, music, animals, foods, sports, we read stories, we enjoy snacks-it's so much fun! In my classes we encourage sharing, communicating and learning. We practice and learn different skills to take on to pre-school including but not limited to taking turns, waiting in line, fine and gross motor skills, being a good listener, following directions and more. I have been a certified lifeguard and lifeguard instructor since 2014. That certification includes CPR and first aid training. I thoroughly enjoy my current position, but am looking to narrow my focus on working with primarily children, as opposed to now as I oversee 60 staff members and a facility. In my personal life, I have 3 nieces under the age of 7. I have had a large part of their lives since birth and I enjoy spending time with them. My husband and I own our home in Oreana with our spirited puppy, Mossy.
