I am a 24 year old Grad Student studying communication at Quincy University. I am also an Assistant Coach for their Men's Volleyball Team. I have been a Camp Counselor for kids ages 10-12, and 14-16. This was at an overnight camp called Camp Lincoln for Boys, where the average session length was 4 weeks. I am well aware of the social and psychological needs of children in those age groups. I took a year off after completing my undergraduate program at IPFW to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and since then I have decided I wanted to stick with a field that centers around helping others. In that year I took up coaching a small club team and a high school freshman team, as well as worked as a facilitator at a Team-Building course. I have a ton of enthusiasm for the small things Read more that often get unnoticed. During my time as a counselor, I would have small emotional lulls. I learned that by paying close attention to the small moments, (a quick joke to elicit laughter, a small game to cure boredom, a simple chant to bolster energy) I can really enjoy the simple things in life. For instance, often times it only takes a basketball game with a quarter and a table (and playing for bites of food) to get somebody to eat if they don't feel like it.
