Alisha’s Bio

I am currently a stay at home mom to my only son, who is one year old. Before having my son, I worked as a sales associate in a department store while earning my B.A. in Psychology from Marshall University in West Virginia. After receiving that degree, I took 15 hours of graduate courses in Elementary Education from Liberty University. I had always planned on being a working mother, but after having my son in my arms, I realized that I wanted him to have the absolute best care possible, and the only way I could ensure that would happen is if I stayed home with him during his early childhood years.
I am looking for a babysitting position that will allow me to continue to stay with my son and allow him to have interaction with other children. I believe that by bringing my son with me to a babysitting position, he and the other children will benefit from socializing with and learning from each other.
I have not had a regular job as a babysitter. However, I have cared for close friends and families children on rare occasions. Before having my son, I was also a preschool Sunday school teacher, which gave me experience with 2-4 year olds.
My family is moving from West Virginia to Kentucky at the end of June 2011, in order for my husband to finish his graduate degree. He is an associate pastor at a church in WV, and our church has asked that he keep his job with them. In order to accomodate his work and school schedules, we will be in Kentucky during the week, but travel to West Virginia on weekends. Therefore, I will not be available on weekends, unless arrangements have been made well in advance.
I promise to care for your child as I care for my own. Because I have not had regular babysitting jobs before, I cannot tell you about my babysitting tendencies. However, I can give you some insight into my parenting style, which would directly translate into my babysitting style. I am with my child at all times. I feel that one can never be too careful, and I leave nothing to chance. I am generally a perfectionist-type. I spend most of my time on the floor playing with my son. I try to create learning experiences from our surroundings. I read with my son multiple times a day. I do not feed my son 'junk' food. Our family adheres to a vegetarian diet for health, environmental, and moral reasons. For years, I have looked up to Jo Frost (Supernanny), because I believe her methods of discipline are ideal. I believe in loving children unconditionally. I am open and honest, generally quiet, punctual, compassionate, and full of integrity.
I also have a fur-baby named Marley. He is a loving, 4 year old, 40-pound rescue mutt, living the good life.
