I attended Wheelock College, and during my freshman year studied human growth and development. I ended up volunteering at Project Hope in Dorchester, which is a multi-service agency who's goal is to move families out of poverty, they also offer educational opportunities to families in need. While volunteering at Project Hope I worked with infants and children of all ages. I later found myself volunteering at Ellis Memorial, which offers an after school program for inner-city kids. I’ve worked with infants and toddler as well as teenagers inside and out of after school program environments. As for my current employment, I am a caregiver to a twenty four year old woman with cerebral palsy, who is also blind and confined to a wheel chair. She is cognitively about five years old and is only interested in music, books and activities that gage towards that age group. I’ve taken on many responsibilities working Read more with this young women which include, administrating medication, diagnosing and controlling seizures, taking to doctors appointment, accompanying to physical therapy, planning daily activities with other individuals with special needs, taking out to eat, and giving back to the local police and fire department though baked goods and consistent visits to these various departments. It is so rewarding to watch individuals grow being a child or adult with special needs and know you have contributed part of yourself to providing a cultured and loving environment for them to exceed in.
