I am a trained opera singer, linguist (fluent in German, conversational Spanish), world traveler, and lover of children. I most recently worked as a nanny for a family with three children-- two who attend the German International School (ages 5 & 8) and the youngest (age 3) who stayed at home with me to learn German in preparation for preschool. I had been with the family for a year, however, their childcare needs changed and I am looking for a new position. Prior to that position, I worked as a mother's helper with a newborn, nannied for a German family with an infant and a toddler for 3 years, and lived in Germany for 4 years where I helped two families with infants as a part-time babysitter and classical singer. I am 37 years old and have a Master's in Music. My love of music, art, dance, psychology, world cultures, Read more ethnic foods, and creative activity infuses my childcare style with an emphasis on lifelong learning and self expression. I love nurturing children's imaginations, promoting learning, soothing sensitive souls, building self-esteem and providing environments to grow and experience new things. I also feel at ease setting limits for children and following through on consequences when expectations aren't met. My experience with infants began 8 years ago. I worked as a mother's helper for a lactation specialist/obstetrics nurse who trained me in the subtle language of newborns. I have put this training into practice with several babies and toddlers since then. My experience with families with older children ages 3-9 has also been very rewarding. In addition to helping with homework, I have enjoyed exposing them to foreign languages using songs and simple phrases. I was also a violin teacher for for kids age 5+ and enjoyed cultivating my students' patience and discipline for learning a new skill. I am reliable, self-motivated, energetic, creative, and a good communicator. I do my best to care for children according to their parents' wishes. I try to vary daily activities so that all parts of the children's development get addressed during the week (physical, artistic, educational, scientific, etc.). I am especially good at helping older kids with homework and music practice. I feel very at home in the kitchen, and am happy to help with light housework and laundry if desired. I have a clean driving record. I am also certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.
