I am interested in applying for the Special Education position for the upcoming school year. As a 2014 graduate of the University of Scranton, I have had student teaching experiences in urban, suburban, and private education settings. In my first job teaching Special Education, I was teaching at the middle school level in a high needs area. This position enabled me to provide academic services and supports to students with a wide variety of disabilities. I was challenged to create a learning environment that was conducive for all students’ needs academically, socially, and emotionally. During my second year of teaching as an Inclusion Associate, I provided academic and social emotional support to special education students in the general education setting. This experience in an urban, high needs area has helped me grow professionally and personally. I have been exposed to a wide variety of student needs and challenged to meet Read more these needs in a full inclusion setting. This challenge helped mold my practice not only as a teacher but also more importantly as a Special Educator. In my current position as an Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapist, I provide academic and behavioral services to students with severe disabilities. My current experience has helped me grow professionally in the areas of collaboration, teamwork, and my behavior management skills. Working with this population of students has allowed me to improve in my practice in the aspect of understanding the needs of all learners and implementing services and supports in multiple environments and settings. As a Special Education teacher, I have learned many valuable skills in the area of collaboration. My role as a special educator has taught me to be a member of team and how to establish relationships with parents and students alike. Although the area of collaboration among teachers and parents can be challenging, my current position has helped me grow in my communication skills among different content areas as well as the community. I am truly passionate about teaching adolescents and inspiring young minds in the field of special education. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my skills and experiences can meet the needs of your students. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Grace Morgan
