My name is Aleigh Romito. I am 20 years old and am from Arnold, Maryland. I graduated from Broadneck High School in the top of my class and currently attend the University of Texas at Austin where I am pursuing a career in nursing. I was also accepted into the Nursing Honors Program. Through this program I will complete a research project. I will begin my independent study this semester in order to complete this project. For my topic I chose risk factors that contribute to the early onset of depressive symptoms in hispanic adolescents. One day, I hope to continue my education and receive my Masters Degree with a specialty in Neonatology. During the summer and over holidays, I live with my father, stepmother, and 20-month-old half sister Zoe. I often see my mother as well as she lives close by with my brother Ethan (14), half sister Makenna Read more (5), stepfather, and two dogs. Having two sisters under the age of four has allowed me to help out with many of the responsibilities that come with having a baby and further my knowledge about young children. I have twice renewed my certification in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross. Additionally, I have have my license since March 2011 and have not been involved in any car accidents. In my free time I enjoy volunteering at the hospital, which I have been doing for the last four years, sailing, going to the movies, hanging out with friends, exploring new places, and trying new foods. I am a very responsible, organized, reliable person who has a strong passion for working with children. I have been babysitting and mothers helping since the age of 10, working with children of all ages. While in high school, I also tutored French students at an elementary and high school level as a member of the French Honor Society and tutored a fourth grade girl in mathematics in my spare time. For the past two summers, I have worked for The Key School as an assistant camp counselor. I worked 40 hours a week teaching ten, four-year-olds. This was one of the greatest experiences I have had with children. I learned that while children can be difficult at times, they are absolutely the most enjoyable people to be around. This experience only solidified the fact that I want to work with them forever. I will be available for occasional and longterm babysitting beginning MAY 20 and ending AUGUST 13.
