Ever since I was old enough to begin babysitting, I have enjoyed caring for and teaching children. I love reading children’s literature (of which I have my own fairly extensive library), playing games, encouraging creativity (especially musical), exploring nature, visiting museums and historic locations, and viewing all situations as learning opportunities. Now, as a graduate student who is surrounded almost entirely by my peers and my professors, I miss my interactions with children. I look forward to spending a summer away from the isolated world of academia, while also saving money for my continued education and musical career. My experience ranges from watching six children while their mom did housework to babysitting anywhere from two to eight children at a time; from monitoring fifteen to twenty students during evening school events to chaperoning groups of three or four students on school field trips; from helping in the church nursery to Read more overseeing kids, ranging from infancy to early grade school, during weekly Bible studies. At age 16, I took care of my five cousins for a month while their mom underwent cancer treatment, homeschooling the older two (in 1st and 3rd grades) while simultaneously keeping the younger three occupied (one of whom was a newborn), making their lunches, and doing some basic housework. More recently, during the 2012-2013 school year, I was a part-time nanny, mainly to one little boy (8 months old when I started), but also sometimes to his older brother (3 years old). I worked for them periodically over the course of about eight months before returning to school this past fall. Besides traditional childcare, I also have experience as a tutor and teacher. I tutored students in reading and writing and taught general music classes in a small private elementary school for two years. The bulk of my teaching experience has been in giving violin and viola lessons, starting when I was in high school. Over the years, my students have ranged from early elementary school to high school, most often one at a time, but also in group lessons. During the 2012-2013 school year, I gave lessons through a local Music and Arts, taught several students at a PG County high school, and taught privately. I have a BA in Violin, an MM in Viola, and am currently pursuing a doctorate at Case Western Reserve University in Historical Performance Practice.
