I do not remember a time when I did not want to work with children in my future. I began babysitting at the age of 11 with my older sister for family friends and took a babysitter's course in our town as soon as I was old enough. I continued to babysit, coach tennis lessons, nanny in the summer, and volunteer in my church's nursery throughout high school. After entering college I was able to meet a few families that I was able to babysit for and found a new church in which I could volunteer in the nursery. I also volunteered in our local rescue mission daycare throughout my time in college. In the summers throughout college I worked at a Bible camp in northern Michigan, working with children ranging in age from a few months old to 17 years old. I spent most of my college career seeking Read more a teaching degree in the early childhood field and loved my courses and professors but realized my senior year that the classroom setting was not for me. Child development and welfare are both so interesting to me and I wanted to pursue a career more geared towards that than towards teaching, so I changed my major in the fall of my senior year. I was still able to take all of the courses I had hoped to take and graduated on time! Now that I have graduated I am ready for my next adventure to begin. Coming from a small town in West Michigan I look forward to moving somewhere new, meeting new people, and getting plugged into a new community. I am very confident that the courses and field experiences I had while in college have prepared me well for working with children of all ages in a variety of settings.
