I have always enjoyed spending time with kids. My first job after my undergraduate studies was as a K-3 Literacy Tutor for Minnesota Reading Corps. My job was to plan one-on-one literacy sessions with students who were below grade reading level. I loved that position because I got to know my students really well and was able to create lesson plans for their specific needs. We worked on becoming better readers and I worked hard to foster a love of reading in my students. It is incredibly rewarding to see a student's pride in themselves after having success. The next year, I worked in Istanbul, Turkey as a Kindergarten teacher. I was in charge of my own classroom and planned creative and engaging lessons. I learned a lot about patience, time management, and creating a fun atmosphere while still learning. I became a part of my student's lives and got Read more to know each of them on an individual level. This past year, I have been working as a substitute teacher. I have realized that teaching is something I love and want to pursue. I have worked in a number of different classrooms and subbed for grades Junior Kindergarten through High School. I love the energy and enthusiasm of elementary age students. I am a good role model because I bring a positive, caring attitude to every situation. I want to be a teacher, but did not realize that until I saw the impact I could make a student's life. I will be starting the Master of Arts in Education program at Hamline in the fall. I think part of being a good role model is taking pride in the life you live and challenging yourself. I try to lead an active life and never stop learning. It's important to me that I be someone my students or any child can look up to and rely on
