Hello! My name is Katie, and I am a 30 year old PhD candidate getting read to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a PhD in English Literature in May. For the past two years while completing my studies and teaching at the U, I have served as a babysitter/part-time nanny for two children Now aged 9 and 5 (and occasional babysitter for a family of three children, a 5 year old and two toddlers). With the 9 and 5 year old (who were 7 and 3 when I began) I have been responsible for weekly school pick-ups, adventurous outings to places like the Mill City Museum and the Public Libraries, for bike rides to city parks, for summer outings to swimming pools and ice cream parlors, and for heading to after school activities like gymnastics lessons. I have also spent much time with them at home, devising arts Read more and crafts projects, team-baking yummy treats, playing games, reading books, creating obstacle courses--getting creative when the weather drives us inside, or when we simply need time at home. I have learned how to facilitate "group" activities, to recognize when independent play/activities are what the kids need, and how to approach sibling conflict when it arises. My years of nannying and babysitting have brought me such joy and laughter. After graduation this May, I am looking, ideally, for a 4-5 day/week summer nannying position. I will likely begin teaching again in the fall, and would love to have some time this summer to spend doing the other thing that I love--spending time with and caring for children.
