My initial safety training regarding child care occurred while I was in high school volunteering as a Safety Camp Counselor in Forest Lake, MN. I volunteered at that camp two years in a row and helped teach children about water safety, stranger awareness, bike safety, and how to apply first aid. In the process I learned a lot myself, such as how to conduct CPR. Also during Junior High and High School I helped in the infant and toddler nurseries at Maranatha Church in Wyoming, MN. Here I volunteered to watch the church-goers' children while they went to services. This mostly consisted of playing with the children, preparing snacks, helping them go to the bathroom, and teaching them numbers, colors, symbols, etc., as well as teaching them manners. Once I turned 18 I began teaching Sunday School at Maranatha. The classes consisted of ten to fifteen children depending on the Read more day. I taught alone, which was a challenge at 18, but I quickly learned the best ways to keep the class in order while still keeping them interested in lessons. I only stopped teaching Sunday School and helping in the nurseries because I left for college. Since then I have babysat for friends and family members, but have not been heavily involved with babysitting or nurseries because I have been busy with college, working, interning, and managing an honor society on campus. However, I graduated with my bachelors this past May and am looking for work to help support my husband and I and raise money for grad school a few years from now. I do plan on pursuing my Ph.D in biblical archaeology in several years, after my husband has finished his undergrad. I am also qualified as a pet-sitter. I have raised several cats of my own, and dog sat for many of my friends and family. Also, a year ago I began as a foster parent for Northwoods Humane Society in Wyoming, MN. I have taken care of several litters of kittens as well as adult cats that were injured, recovering from surgery, or getting over an illness. I also took a course this past semester about how best to take care of companion animals. It covered pets from rodents to reptiles and discussed proper nutrition and recognition of diseases regarding each pet type. I absolutely love caring for animals and children. They hold a very special place in my heart. Other than the above I have babysat and pet sat for multiple friends and family. I am now graduated from college and am looking to raise money for grad school through working.
