I'm a certified paramedic, and have been working in the field for three years. I spent my teenage years working with children as a babysitter, camp counselor, and violin teacher. While I love working in the medical field, I've found that I really miss working with children, and would love to spend more time with them. As a teenager, I babysat regularly for several families. Two of these families had children with medical conditions. One girl had heart and lung defects, and needed to be on oxygen. Part of my job was to monitor her, and when she started showing signs of being oxygen deficient, I had to help slow her down so her heart and lungs could replenish their oxygen stores. I also regularly babysat for a young boy who was developmentally delayed. He was fed through a feeding tube, and had special braces that he needed to wear Read more on his legs. He had an older brother, so I mostly tried to keep them from getting into too much trouble. I would help out with adjusting his equipment, and would make sure he used his walker or crutches when he needed them. The family that I care for the most and was with the longest had four children. I started caring for the two oldest when they were toddlers, and as the family grew I stayed on to care for the new additions. I gained my experience with infants and very young toddlers through this family. I had a very special bond with all of the children, and was heartbroken when I moved to Saint Paul because it meant I wouldn't get to see them very often. In addition to child care, I also have experience teaching violin lessons. I primarily taught five and six-year-olds, but I do have experience with students as old as seventeen.
