I will be moving to the Denver area this August and am currently in Bailey, Colorado working at a YMCA camp. I have worked with children for 8 years now in various settings. I began babysitting when I was 14 years old and continued to care for families (1 month to 13 years of age) throughout my high school and college career. I decided to major in Child Development and Education and received my Bachelor of Science from the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Missouri, Columbia this past May (2016). Some of my courses consisted of Multicultural Study of Children and Family, Principles of Human Development, Children in Healthcare Settings, Emotional Disorders, Social Deviance, Working with Parents, Early Language, and various research methods. I also took courses that broke down the development from prenatal ages to 18 years of age. I took various lab courses at Read more the Child Development Lab at the University of Missouri where I was able to be in an infant/toddler classroom as well as three different preschool classrooms and complete an internship at Creative Futures Child Care in Columbia that each had different styles of instructional models and curriculum. Here, I facilitated a learning environment that allowed children to advance through hands on experience and exploration of nature, culture and creative life skills. I applied various observations methods and formal assessments such as ASQ – Ages & Stages Questionnaire and DRDP – Desired Results for Children and Families, utilizing video, audio and observational notes. I also have a certificate from the University of Missouri in Multicultural Family Studies. For the past two consecutive summers (2015 & 2016) I have worked at theYMCA Camp Santa Maria. I plan and implement recreational learning programs, which are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. I lead instructional courses on outdoor activities such as; camping, backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding and wilderness survival. I am pleased to work with a wide range of ages from 7 to 17 with a variety of behavioral issues, outdoor skills, and abilities. I am a registered Lifeguard through American Red Cross, CPR certified and First Aid certified through American Heart Association. My passion for the outdoors as also led me to become Wilderness First Aid certified through NOLS. Through the Missouri Department of Health I am trained in infant and toddler safe sleep.
