Since I was age 5 I have been changing diapers and feeding newborns with the assistance of my mom, beginning with my little brother. At the age of 9 I began shadowing my mom, who was a nanny at the time. She entrusted me with some of the responsibilities, such as preparing meals, changing diapers, feeding and getting them ready for bed. By the age of 12 I began babysitting alone for other families with children ranging in age from 4 months to 12 years old. Aside from the assigned and expected responsibilities from the parents, I would go above these expectations by cleaning the house, feeding their animals, playing games with the children, and showing each child that I genuinely cared for them. I choose to become a nanny because bringing a smile to a child’s face and making them feel loved brings me joy. She loved what she has always done as she continues to work with children and severely disabled individuals, and has shown me how fun and rewarding it is to be with children. More than anything in life I want to be a mother. I am good at my job because I am patient, kind, can keep the children engaged, and I don’t do the job half heartedly but will put my whole heart into helping the children have fun, be safe, and be engaged in learning along the way.
