Hello. My name is Laura, but children call me "Nanny Awah". I've been a mother, a primary grade schoolteacher, a homemaker, a camp counselor, and a nanny. My husband and I raised our children in the heartland. For the past decade, I have been a nanny in Boulder, Colorado, where our own children chose to do their undergraduate work. The quote, "While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about" (by Angela Schwindtz) is a motto I hold close to my heart. Children have always been my special passion. I feel a unique love for each child that crosses my path. As a nanny, this love must be expressed in a way that encompasses my responsibility to the parents and their wishes, as well as my need to protect and care for their children. Children are our sacred trust. The Read more future of our planet depends upon the future of our children. In my estimation, every child is a special gift to life on earth. We have so much to learn from their joy, innocence, curiosity, beauty, honesty, and affection. As adults, we are entrusted with their care and nurturing. This is our greatest responsibility. I'm looking for family to cherish and help with childcare and home upkeep. I am loving, competent, reliable, organized, neat ‘n clean, mature yet playful and energetic. Think “Maria” in The Sound of Music. I love to sing, and I love nature. Unless the weather is a disaster, I believe in fresh air and exercise every day. I'm experienced and comfortable with children of all ages – from birth on. (I've nurtured 5 newborns.) I would tend to your home as you would like it – organized and looking its best. Time permitting, I also do laundry, errands, light house work, etc. Children discover quickly that I am lots of fun, yet I am "in charge. " Regardless of what kids may tell an adult, they do not feel very safe being "the boss". I always show respect for the child, and usually employ humor and joy! My philosophy is to encourage a child to explore and enjoy life, while learning to understand boundaries and show respect for others. A first grader in my classroom once said to me, "I like you because you love everybody the same". I would be available for a family in Asheville by April, 2014. I have a formal resume, references, and letters of recommendation available upon request. I can be reached at 303-720-9980.
