Hello, my name is Mallary. I graduated from Appalachian State University, in Boone, North Carolina in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development. Throughout my time in undergrad, I worked and did my 400-hour internship at Appalachian State University Child Development Center all 4 years, with children ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Children are my passion, plain and simple. I love being able to help children and their families in any way I can, because I believe all children are competent and capable. Alongside working at a child development center, I did my practicum at Lucy Brock, which is a well-known child development center and lab program. This lab program allowed me to work with and observe children all over the spectrum and with special needs. I just obtained my Master of Arts in Education in Birth through Kindergarten at East Carolina University this Read more past December 2020. Within that program I took many courses about children with challenging behaviors and how to navigate that to better the environment for the child and teachers. Another passion of mine is running, and luckily for me I was able to pursue that passion throughout college as an athlete at Appalachian State University on their Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Being a division 1 athlete taught me a lot about time management, responsibility and organization with juggling academics, athletics, and a social life all at once. I have exceptional long-term experience as a nanny, whereas I have nannied for almost 6 years and have experience with newborns, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school aged children, and multiples (worked with twins). My duties with those families included laundry, diapering, bathing, cleaning, engaging, and providing developmentally appropriate activities, tummy time, follow a creative curriculum approach, read many books, and I talk to them through everything I did like diapering, reading, feeding, etc. I believe I have the skills and knowledge to perform this job, and I am eager to learn more in this field. I have every intention of becoming a BCBA and I plan to start that journey ASAP. I have always wanted to better the environment and the lives of children and their families and work more one-on-one with children, and I think this job opportunity will help me do just that.
