Currently I am graduate student at UNC-CH School of Social Work and I am fairly new to the Triangle Area. I have served as U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana and had experience working with children in my village focusing on leadership skills and empowerment. Before going to the Peace Corps I worked for the YMCA in Cincinnati Ohio as the After School Program Coordinator at the Price Hill location. I planned, implemented, and supervised their after-school and summer program for 35 at risk school aged children. I also built and utilized a curriculum focused on physical wellness, critical thinking skills, homework assistance, and the importance interpersonal skills. I served two term of AmeriCorps after graduating from Ohio University with a Bachelors of Social Work in Athens, Ohio. My first term I served as rural community outreach specialist in a subsidized housing complex, where I taught children how to garden Read more and cook. My second term was with the College of Osteopathic Medicine of Ohio University serving in for a local school district as the health promotion specialist. At Trimble Local Schools, I administered basic First Aid in school and on all field trips, conducted hearing, vision and BMI screenings, managed lice control, conducted 2nd grade health fairs. I also conducted school-wide presentations on heart health, lice, poison prevention, hand washing and oral health and facilitated the PAWS (Physical Activity Wellness and Self-Esteem) Club and Dance Club, as well as, co-lead a Girl Power group. During this time I also served as an after-school program leader for Kids on Campus for the 1st and 4th grade classes. I provided homework help, art/craft time and physical wellness programming.
