Like most girls, I started staying home with my younger brother "in charge" around 11, which led to babysitting neighborhood children. At 17, I provided in-home care for a 2 month old in a cast due to a club foot once his mother returned to work. I worked with this family full time until moving to college and continued to provide child care whenever I was home (sometimes arranging visits around needed childcare as I was the only one their son would willingly stay with). Since college I have worked in an elementary school as a special needs tutor and a day care as the lead teacher in the toddler room. Additionally, I have been helping my brother with raising his (now) 9 year old so since his divorce. For a few years this included 2-4 nights/3-4 days a week as primary caregiver.
