Child & Adult First Aid & CPR Certified (1.5 years Remaining) Hi my name’s Jerick! I went to college to pursue a degree in parks, recreation, and tourism management. I stopped attending school before my senior year to take advantage of a job opportunity at the Eastern 4H Center in Columbia, NC. Over multiple seasons I was responsible for caring for 10 kids or more for a week at a time. Acting “in loco parentis” helped me realize that although I have a silly personality, I am extremely responsible when I am trusted with the care of children or others. Moving on, I moved into a supervisory role to the new counselors and sincerely missed the direct interaction with the kids. What also ensures my confidence to be a child care professional, is the fact that I’ve been an uncle for 13 years. With the addition of two more this Read more past year, I’ve had experience handling newborns - teenagers at the same time. Other skills that I find useful when caring for children are my ability to cook and clean, my patience when helping with homework, and my dedication to incorporating a variety of fun based on the child’s interests. Although I value fun, I understand and accept the role an adult plays in a child’s life and development. Adequate rest, conversation, attention, encouragement to make good decisions, and an age appropriate sense of responsibility, are things I enjoy facilitating. As a child care professional, I still categorize myself in the customer service field. That being said my first customer is always the parent, and next is the child. Whatever expectations you set will be my focus, and as long as the child’s expectations do not conflict with yours, I’ll do my best to please everyone.
