I have been a child care provider for most of my life. In addition to raising my own 2 children I was instrumental in helping to raise my nephew. I love children and have always enjoyed being in their company. After running my own home day care for 8 years I went back to school to take some formal classes. I received my CDA (Child Development Associate) certificate and I worked for a few years in a formal school setting. I found I actually prefer working privately with families as I easily bond with children. I am currently looking for part time employment but if I should find a good fit with the right family I will certainly consider full time. I am trained in both CPR and basic 1st aid and I have flexibility with my hours, though I am currently volunteering at a hospital on Friday mornings. I Read more love dogs so no problem there but I do have an allergy to cats. A typical day would include plenty of outside time, doing fun crafts and learning about a specific holiday or an interest the child may have. For instance during a holiday like the 4th of July we may do a craft making a wind sock using the appropriate colors and teaching the child what the colors represent. We might make a flag and then learn about the meaning of the stripes and the stars and the colors, all the while allowing them to express their own creativity. If a child likes teddy bears we might make a bear puppet using paper bags then having a puppet show. There are so many ways for a child to learn about everyday instances simply through play and reading books and stretching their imaginations. I also like to do little experiments with children such as mixing colors to show what new colors we can make or using crayon shavings to make sun catchers. We may collect leaves and do leaf rubbings with crayons and make pretty pictures. I also allow them to assist in the kitchen and make simple choices that are age appropriate. Children love to help when it's fun and they feel good about something they help to create. I do not rely on the tv to get us through the day though there may be times when educational tv can be beneficial. I set a routine for the day so children know what to expect but also allow for changes to occur as life would dictate. I always read to children before they nap and let them choose a favorite story if they want to. Their day will be filled with fun and interesting things to do and they will always be safe and feel secure knowing they are loved and cared for.
