I am 22 years old and a Rowan University alumnae. For the past 3 years, I've been working in an elementary school after school program in Camden which aimed to supply students with any additional help on basic concepts they may have not fully grasped during the school day. We stayed in constant communication with teachers and parents to ensure they were making improvements. We had a really fun staff and we were really creative with how we went about teaching. We put on science fairs where the kids had SO much fun demonstrating experiments and explaining them to their parents. We also built an entire arcade out of cardboard with the intentions of teaching them teamwork, engineering and money management (we gave them a budget). I truly enjoyed my time there during the school year so I also worked the summer camps as well. During the summers I instruct Read more the emotional awareness class where I had the kids come in after play time and we meditated to recenter our energy and refocus for the next class. I would have them reflect on their feelings, their day, what they are grateful for, and how to manage their emotions. I felt this was an important skill to learn since a lot of the kids struggled with anger management or had poor reactions when things did not go their way. I have a lot of fun working with kids and just taking in their pure energy. Today, I work as a substitute teacher during the school year and as a youth development program founder and director year-round. My program is intended to expose youth to the arts and teach them how to use art to advocate for justice and peace. I am an artist and I love bringing my passion for art and my passion for youth together by getting crafty and creative with the little ones. I am CPR and First Aid certified, I have Child Abuse clearance forms, and references available upon request.
