Hello! My name is Janine Hope but the kids call me Ya Ya (picked up the nickname from a summer camp I worked at for 3 years!) I have worked with kids (newborn to 17) for about 6 years and absolutely love working with them. My favorite are the itty bitties (newborn to 5 years). Here's a snapshot of my experience as a nanny and youth programmer: 1. I have volunteered for a preschool in Oklahoma City that helps children with autism integrate into a typically developing kindergarten. Teacher's assistant. In charge of programming and language development. 2. I nannied a 5 year old named Jack for 2 years in Oklahoma and I LOVED it! Jack's mom specifically asked for help with his anger management so we did a lot of nature play and positive reinforcement which I learned through the YMCA of Northern Utah. Jack did so well that Read more he is now top of his class at an OKC elementary school. Couldn't be more proud! 3. I have worked as a sleepaway camp counselor and an art director for both the Girl Scouts of Utah and YMCA of Northern Utah for the past three years. I taught mostly nature based art expression, yoga, independence from mom and dad (sleepaway camp is challenging sometimes especially for the little ones), and outdoor education. But my favorite part was definitely seeing the kids light up when they learn something new or realize that someone is just excited to hear what they have to say. (Not to mention I know about a million camp songs and games!) 4. I worked for two years at a preschool in Salt Lake City with kids ranging from newborns to 2 year old toddlers. I am comfortable with diaper changing, play time, baby sign, and all other elements of "baby" territory. I am CPR (child and adult), First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Safe House, and Food Handler's certified. I consider myself very approachable and accepting of kids and families of all backgrounds. Most importantly, I encourage positive self image, expression, and growth of sense of self. I am a big believer in getting "unplugged", out of the house, and exploring the world around us. Don't we all need a little more of that? It means I love library trips, swim time, little hikes in the area, etc.
Trust & safety
We encourage parents to conduct their own screenings using the background check tools. See what each of the badges covered, or learn more about keeping your family safe by visiting the Trust & Safety Center.
