Michelle’s Bio

Picking the proper person to work with children takes a lot of energy. Thank you for taking the time to look into my portfolio,
resume, and talk with me. Perhaps at the moment, I am a stranger to you, but for the past ten years of my life I have worked to
leave a positive impression on many children and their families and hope to introduce you to my philosophies on child-care.
I grew up in Bay Shore, NY with my mother, brother, grandmother, and uncle- whose daughters would visit on the weekends.
When my cousins would visit, we would watch a lot of movie musicals together. This sparked my interest in the performing arts
at young age. I trained in dance, vocal performance, and keyboard. I performed in a local theatre group, volunteered in theater
in El Salvador in high school, and volunteered as a stage manager at St. Joseph’s College. This lead to opportunities to direct
camp plays at the Mid-Island Y JCC. Now, I sing with a band. The children I work with also get a healthy amount of music in their
lives. For example, any day with me could include an impromptu dance party to help them get their energy out, instructions to
tasks sung to them, singing along with my ukulele, or learning the basics of keyboard. It brings me a lot of joy to share music
with children and I hope many children choose to pick up an instrument or proudly sing because they were inspired by how
musical activities made them feel.
I have also always had an interest in art. You’ll find in my resume that I was an arts and crafts instructor at Michaels. In my
portfolio, you will find arts and crafts projects I did with my current nanny family. I believe children need art as part of their
growth and development. Art is part of their fine motor skill development and learning to love and explain art they have
created is important to their self-expression. It is vital to their sensory experience as well to engage with the many different
materials used in their creations.
As a nanny and early childhood educator, I care a lot to instill respect for others. Politeness is something I try to teach every
child. I do this by leading with examples.
