I am a positive, energetic and creative educator and doer who enjoys working with children, including special needs children, to empower them, increase their self-esteem and independence, and to help hem realize their fullest potential. Originally from Virginia, I ran track & field at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology. As part of the New York City Teaching Fellows, I earned a Master's in Education at Pace University and taught students with autism for 5 years in the South Bronx. I am a New York State licensed and certified teacher for both general and special education grades 1-12. I am certified to teach children's yoga and have taught classes of up 22 children from ages 3-10. I have 10 years of babysitting experience working with children ages 7 months to 10 years of age. I have had a rewarding position nannying for a 7 year Read more old girl diagnosed with autism, fostering a loving and nurturing environment where I was responsible for snacks, lunch, dinner, creative play, exercise, homework, bath time and bedtime. Additionally, I educated the family in order to help them better understand their daughter's autism, her behaviors, and needs; and I collaboratively created and implemented plans to address academic, social/emotional, and behavioral needs which noticeably, positively, and successfully increased her skills and growth in each area. I am passionate about yoga, movement, music, and art and love to find ways to infuse fun and play into activities in order to create an enriching and engaging experience. With my background in education, I am well-equipped to help and encourage your child along in their journey of learning as well as work on modifying challenging behaviors through patient and consistent redirection and the development of new and healthier behavioral patterns and skills. I take pride in maintaining a clean and tidy environment for the children I work with and enjoy helping to instill whatever values parents and guardians hold most dear.
