Dear Family: My name is Alexis Spaulding and I am looking for a position as a professional family nanny. Having a Bachelors of Science and working in a hospital for the past 3 years has allowed me to have a strong ability to build effective relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds. During my work at New York Presbyterian as a mental health worker I have had numerous responsibilities. I monitor and work with patients from the age of 5 to 97 years old in a psychiatric setting. I help these individuals’ complete activities of daily living such as personal care with bathing, grooming, bed mobility, dressing, eating and toileting; observing and documenting physical, emotional and social behaviors of people with psychiatric disorders and reporting necessary data to the nursing team. On the children's unit my responsibility is to keep the children safe while they are receiving treatment away Read more from their family. We play games, go to the hospital park and have groups but most importantly I have to help the kids eat their meal, maintain personal care and go to class. I have worked with children with Asperger's syndrome, mental retardation, autism and behavioral difficulties as well. The work I have had specifically as a babysitter was with a neighbor of mine who has twin boys. I babysat these boys occasionally from the age of 2-9. From the their age of 7-9 my routine was to care for the boys for 2-3 hours after school. My duties were to make sure they had a snack, help them with their homework and make sure it was completed, and to keep the kitchen clean. Throughout the years I have watched them overnight as well. While I believe in stimulating a child's mind and teaching them how to be the best they can be, I have a very easy going and calm personality. I try to keep things fun and interesting with playing activities, while instilling good moral qualities through example. I adapt well to many situations, which allows me to keep a calm demeanor during tough situations. I am optimistic in my ability to be a positive addition to your family and lifestyle, and I am eager to leverage my skills and expertise to contribute to your family.
