I started babysitting for my parents’ friends, in 2006. At first I did it because I wanted my parents and their friends to have a good time and take a break from family routines. Over time, I realized that caring for kids and hanging out with them was the best way to improve my language skills. More importantly, it gave me an insight into what it is like to raise children and family. It is no easy task. Each child begins to have a personality as early as 5 month old, and every personality requires a different approach to learning. It is unbelievable how fast children develop, and at each stage you, as a caregiver, must supply them with appropriate challenges. One has to read into every situation, think fast, and adapt accordingly. I have been caring for children for six years now, and I have learned more from taking Read more care of children than I have at any other job I had since and throughout my working career. It is hard to describe and pinpoint how many skills I have gained, but the following are pretty vital: multitasking, thinking fast, rolling with the punches, and most importantly being patient. No other job could teach me these lifelong skills and/or better prepare me for future. I am good at caregiving because I care about children, and I care about quality, not to mention all the fun you get to have as they grow older. It is important to me that every/any job that you take on, you do it and you must do it right, whether it is creating a marketing plan, teaching ABCs to 1-year-old, or making the bed.
