Recent Columbia University graduate, part-time writer, and full-time bookworm living in Bushwick. In my home state of Massachusetts, I was the assistant director of the Mazemakers Day Camp for two years — after working as a counselor for the previous six (and attending as a camper for four). Mazemakers is a relatively small arts and computer camp for kids aged 7–14 that focuses on creativity and community-building; it's the kind of place where the campers write their own Constitution and staffers hold whole meetings focused around helping one lonely kid find a friend. There, I got the chance to work with a number of children with learning differences — and was also often responsible for groups of up to 25 campers at a time. Mostly, though, we played board games and made movies and generally had a blast. Having made the decision to stay in New York after graduation, I Read more missed out on the chance to go back this past summer and found myself really missing the experience of working with kids — so, here I am! Aside from the board games (not to brag, but my Blokus skills are on point), I'd be stoked to help aspiring musicians practice piano, saxophone, and/or guitar. Crafts (including knitting) and dress-up are also well within my repertoire, and I can offer advice in Photoshop, iMovie, and Final Cut for kids interested in filmmaking or graphic design. Plus, thanks to my lovely roommate who works at the National History Museum, I have free access any day of the week. Dinosaur skeletons, ahoy!
